Spiritual Care Coordinator

Summary • Home base is out of Midland or Mt. Pleasant* The Spiritual Care Specialist provides and coordinates spiritual care and support as requested for the hospice patient, caregiver and/or family. The Spiritual Care Coordinator also provides spiritual support to staff. The Spiritual Care Coordinator oversees spiritual care coverage, is a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and ensures maximum access to spiritual care services.

Responsibilities

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Attends and participates in IDT. Responds within appropriate time frame to request for spiritual care of patients and family. Participates in volunteer training program. Assists in planning and providing memorial services. Acts as a resource to staff, volunteers and clergy, providing in-services, literature and materials to enhance sensitivity to spiritual concerns. Responsible for ongoing relationship with formal religious organizations and/or clergy association. Participates in statewide hospice discipline group. Education Specialization: Essential: true Other Information EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: Knowledge of pastoral care or spiritual counseling. Possess in-depth knowledge of spiritual issues, particularly as they affect individual and family systems faced with loss. Demonstrates knowledge of MyMichigan Home Care mission, philosophy, policies and procedures. Understands the spiritual needs of the dying. Ability to function effectively as a team member. Knowledge of religious community resources. Access to reliable transportation. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
