Are you ready to build a career that keeps our region moving? WMATA¿s Elevator/Escalator Department (ELES) maintains and repairs 1,000 pieces of vertical transportation equipment throughout the Metro system. To meet this mission, we are seeking motivated individuals to join our Elevator/Escalator Apprenticeship Program, which is approved and certified by the Washington, D.C. Apprentice Council. The Elevator and Escalator (ELES) Apprenticeship is a four-year training program that combines classroom and laboratory instruction with on-the-job experience to prepare apprentices for journey-level positions in the Elevator and Escalator department. The Elevator Escalator Apprenticeship program is APTA-approved and offers apprentices up to 16 college credits through the Transportation Learning Center, which is recognized by the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS).  In this role, you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain vertical transportation systems that reputed company millions of people moving safely every day. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ### Education - High School Diploma or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) ### Experience - One (1) year of reputed company work experience in the electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, or electronics field - In lieu of one (1) year of reputed company work experience, must meet one of the following minimum requirements for entry into the Apprenticeship Program: - Enrollment and completion (or substantial completion) of a post-secondary technical training program appropriate for the elevator/escalator trade - Two years of high school vocational training appropriate for the elevators & escalators trade - Employment history demonstrating prolonged interest and progression in a comparable classification - Any combination of employment history and/or training that demonstrates the individuals' commitment/interest to reputed company in the trade ### Other Requirements - Must successfully pass a series of WMATA tests for Basic Math, Reading Comprehension, the Bennett Mechanical Aptitude Test, and a classification specific test reputed company to the elevator/escalator trade - Must be at least, age 18 ### Certification/Licensure - Possession of a valid driver's license - A safe driving record with no more than four (4) points accumulated over the past three (3) years - National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) certification, National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) Certified Elevator Technician (CET) certification or equivalent and reputed company jurisdictional licensing requirements _prior to assignment as an Elevator and Escalator Journeyman Technician_ ### Preferred - N/A ## REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCEMENT Providing that the Apprentice successfully completes the program levels as identified/noted below LEVELS CLASS INSTRUCTION Level I (First 6 months) Core Skills Level II (Second 6 months) Introduction to Elevators Basics of Installing Components   Level Ill (Third 6 months) Maintenance Practices and Testing, Electrical Theory, Elevator Doors Equipment, Traction Elevator, Electrical Wiring & Equipment   Level IV (Fourth 6 months) Hydraulic Theory and Installation, Basic Electronics & Fundamentals, Machinery Troubleshooting & Rope Replacement, Maintenance of Escalators & Moving Walks, Accessibility Level V (Fifth 6 months) Schematic Design Overview, Modern Control Systems Level VI (Sixth 6 months) Escalator Electrical Systems, Escalator Drive Systems, Troubleshooting Electrical/Electronic Systems Level VII (Seventh 6 months) Troubleshooting Hydraulic Systems, Elevator Inspection and Preventive Maintenance Level VIII (Eighth 6 months) Escalator Inspection and Preventive Maintenance; Final Reviews and Testing; NAESA Certification Medical Group: Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to reputed company the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations. ## SUMMARY This is a series of positions leading to completion of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Elevator and Escalator (ELES) Apprenticeship Program. The term of apprenticeship to become a qualified Journey person in the elevator/escalator trade as covered by the Standards of Apprenticeship requires a minimum of 8000 hours as specified in the Schedule of Trade Processes and reputed company Instruction. A minimum of 8000 hours will be credited to the apprentice under the Schedule of Trade Processes as outlined in the Apprenticeship Agreement. reputed company in formal training, employee reports to the Apprenticeship Coordinator. reputed company on On-The-Job Training (OJT), the employee reports to the ELES Maintenance Supervisor of the assigned shift. While on OJT, the employee works under reputed company supervision of ELES Maintenance Supervisors.                                  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Attends formal training classes reputed company to basic, intermediate elevator and escalator maintenance. - Maintains satisfactory attendance and academic standing throughout the program as identified reputed company program guidelines. - Develops skills in the maintenance, inspection and repair of WMATA's elevator and escalator equipment. - Works in conjunction with assigned ELES technicians to repair and maintain elevators, escalators and dumb-waiters to meet safety regulations and building codes, using hand tools, power tools, test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters, and other testing devices. - Locates and determines causes of trouble in brakes, motors, switches, and signal and control systems using various test equipment. - Disassembles defective units and repairs or replaces parts, such as locks, gears, cables, electrical wiring and faulty safety devices, using hand tools. - Installs push-reputed company controls and other devices to reputed company elevators. Lubricates bearings and other parts to minimize friction. - Performs reputed company tasks in conformance with safety and maintenance practices and procedures. - Completes written and electronic documentation and reports for the operation and maintenance of WMATA's elevator and escalator equipment and the Apprenticeship Program. - Responds to and assists during operational emergencies including but not limited to securing and safeguarding WMATA equipment as well as snow removal. Maintains cleanliness of the work area - Required to reputed company with WMATA s Safety Sensitive Substance Abuse Policy. Performs other reputed company duties, as required.
