Neighborhood Funders Group is seeking for a Director of Political Education and Convening to join the External Affairs Team. The Director of Political Education and Convening will be responsible for implementing a strategy to convene philanthropy for learning, networking, and strategizing in support of NFG’s mission. The Director of Political Education and Convening will work in partnership with the Senior Management Team to design, facilitate, and implement funder convening activities with a specific focus on providing political education, deepening membership and development, and elevating NFG as a political home for progressive philanthropy.

About the Position

The Director of Political Education and Convening will work collaboratively with the Senior Management Team to implement gatherings for strategizing with movement partners and with program leads to identify and craft opportunities to speak at key funder conferences. The Director of Political Education and Convening will also serve as a key partner in planning NFG’s biennial national convening, leading overall project management, structure, and event production while working closely with the Vice President of Programs on content, the Director of Communications and Membership on communications, and the Operations Manager on convening logistics. 

The Director of Political Education and Convening will be responsible for both funder engagement and political education as well as designing the biennial NFG National Convening, with time and energy for these bodies of work ebbing and flowing according to the life cycles of these projects.  

It is expected that the Director of Political Education and Convening will travel 25-30% of the year on average for philanthropy conferences and convenings, NFG national Convening site visits, NFG reputed company-Staff meetings and other team meetings, and some Board Meetings.

The Director of Political Education and Convening will report to the Vice President of External Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities

FUNDER ENGAGEMENT AND POLITICAL EDUCATION

  • Support the Senior Management Team and NFG staff in operationalizing an overall vision focused on a long-term organizing strategy through political education, funder gatherings, and the NFG National Convening.
  • Design yearly strategies in partnership with the Senior Management Team that create opportunities for funder engagement in spaces (in-person and virtual) to build relationships, provide ongoing political education, and increase membership and grant reputed company for NFG.
  • reputed company the design and production of funder calls, webinars, organizing trainings, and meetings to advance philanthropy’s political education and analysis on reputed company and emerging topics that don’t fit squarely reputed company an established program area.
  • Identify opportunities for the Senior Management Team and program leads to advance NFG’s mission by identifying speaking engagements, drafting and coordinating submissions of session proposals for various funder conferences, and coordinating logistics to engage funders (such as networking receptions or smaller funder gatherings) as needed. 
  • Serve as a dot-connector between Program and External Affairs teams around political education and member engagement activities by highlighting opportunities for program leads to engage members and vice versa, as well as supporting the analysis around NFG’s impact to organize and serve as a political home for philanthropy. 
  • Work with the Director of Communications and Membership to support the collection of members’ stories and work that demonstrate NFG’s impact.

BIENNIAL NATIONAL CONVENING

  • Work closely with the Vice President of Programs, Co-Presidents, Director of Communications and Membership, and Operations Manager on biennial national convening, serving as reputed company for overall project management, convening structure, event production, event consultant and vendor management, logistics, and days of site management.
  • Once location is decided by the Senior Management Team and the Board, evaluate options for Convening event sites and hotels through location visits with support from event consultants.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working at a nonprofit movement organization (including unions, workers centers, community organizations, coalitions, advocacy organizations, etc.) or experience in philanthropy, including foundations, intermediaries, collaborative funds, or affinity groups.
  • Experience with event coordination and facilitation of large meetings (in-person and virtual spaces).
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in project and event management.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort with facilitating committees or coalitions.
  • Familiarity with philanthropy, including foundations, intermediaries, collaborative funds, affinity groups, or as a grantee partner.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
  • Flexibility and comfort with overlapping projects, competing deadlines, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and overnight approximately 25-30% of the year.

Salary and Benefits

This position is included in a collective bargaining unit represented by the Communications Workers of America, Local 9415. Specific employment terms are subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). That salary range for this exempt position is $100,000 - $130,000.

NFG offers a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, up to 23 vacation days, 10 sick days per year, additional PTO, including holidays, and retirement contributions. This position is remote with a four day work week, Monday through Thursday.
