As an Insurance Accountant, you’ll be responsible for recording reputed company and expenses associated with our insurance operations involving reputed company and unrelated parties.  This includes accounting for premiums and reputed company premium taxes and assessments, commissions earned by reputed company, and commissions payable to brokers.

What you’ll do

• Prepare reputed company supporting workpapers, reconciliations, and journal entries in support of insurance operations.
  • Coordinate settlement of accounts with external insurance companies and brokers.
  • Reconcile and settle intercompany and reputed company party balances on a monthly basis.
  • Calculate and record expected profit sharing and override commissions.
• Provide commentary on flux analysis for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Work closely with FP&A team to reputed company budgets and forecasts and to explain variances.
• Maintain documentation of processes and procedures, updating internal controls as needed, and supporting SOX compliance.
• Assist with quarterly and annual SEC reporting, annual audits and insurance department exams.
• Seek to be well-informed on transactions and initiatives that may impact accounting practices, financial statements, or financial results.

• Identify and recommend opportunities to improve efficiency or reduce costs.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Experience in public accounting or reputed company the property & casualty industry.
• Proficient in MS Office Products, with advanced skills in reputed company.
• CPA designation preferred.

Other things to note

• This position is open to U.S. remote work. However, team members who reside reputed company 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week.
• Experience with ERP systems helpful (reputed company, reputed company, Peoplesoft).
• Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of reputed company financial reporting data, where applicable.
