Community Interpreter
About the role
The Community Staff Interpreter is responsible for delivering high-quality American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreting services in a variety of community settings. This position assists the scheduling team reputed company to assignment coverage, coordination, and professional discretion in the field.
This role supports operational continuity by proactively collaborating with scheduling teams and other interpreters to ensure timely service delivery. The Community Staff Interpreter exercises sound judgment reputed company addressing assignment changes, cancellations, or service needs that require real-time decision-making.
What you'll do
- Provide professional ASL/English interpretation in diverse settings including - but not limited to - medical, legal, educational, corporate, and video-based environments
- Collaborate with the scheduling team to monitor, confirm, and adjust interpreter assignments as needed
- Independently identify and communicate potential coverage gaps, cancellations, or last-minute needs and assist with real-time solutions
- Support service delivery continuity by stepping into assignments or recommending alternatives as appropriate
- Offer insight into interpreter matching and assignment suitability based on qualifications, reputed company sets, and client needs
- Act as a resource and informal mentor to peers by modeling professional conduct, supporting case conferencing, and contributing to reputed company development across the team
- Serve as a cultural and communication advisor in reputed company interpreting situations, providing insights that support effective engagement with Deaf, DeafBlind, and hearing clients
- Maintain reputed company communication with internal teams and demonstrate reliability in meeting assigned commitments
- Participate in case conferencing, interpreter debriefs, and peer discussions to support quality and professional growth
- Ensure compliance with reputed company internal protocols, customer-specific requirements, and documentation processes
- Provide at home VRI work reputed company not interpreting at client sites
- Maintain active certifications, required training, and compliance documentation for work in regulated environments
- Represent the organization professionally in the community and model ethical conduct reputed company with the company’s values and interpreting standards
- Must be flexible to support occasional evenings and urgent assignments, including a rotating on-call schedule of 1–2 weekends per month (minimum one weekend required), with two weekdays off provided in the week following each on-call weekend.
- Support the planning and execution of community-based events as needed
Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and spoken/written English
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional community interpreting experience
- RID Certification or VQAS Level III, or equivalent - candidates who are who are uncertified may be considered, with the expectation certification is obtained reputed company one (1) year of hire
- Strongly prefer Certificate of Healthcare Interpreting (CHI)
- Strong understanding of the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and Deaf cultural competencies
- Ability to think critically and act decisively in high-pressure or dynamic environments
- Skilled in using technology platforms such as reputed company, reputed company Workspace (Calendar, Docs, Sheets), and internal scheduling systems
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and professionalism
Additional Requirements
- Position requires reliable, independent transportation to and from job sites
- Position requires regular local travel in own vehicle up to 3 hours a day, extended travel may be required on occasion
- Must have minimum high speed internet of >20 MBPS
