Remote Opportunity Grant Writer – Reparations & Community Funding 1099 Independent Contractor $40–$50 per hour, commensurate with experience Average 12–18 hours per week Availability required for coordination during PST business hours This role requires the ability to increase hours during high‑volume grant periods, active deadlines, or time‑sensitive funding needs About the Organization Palm Springs Section 14 Survivors, Inc. advances justice, reparations, and community healing for families displaced from the historic Section 14 neighborhood in Palm Springs. Following a landmark reparations settlement with the City of Palm Springs, the organization is focused on implementing and expanding survivor‑ and descendant‑centered programs. Role Overview This is not an entry‑level role. We are seeking a Grant Writer with 2–4 years of experience to support community‑aligned, philanthropic, and institutional funding efforts within a broad reparations framework. This is a remote, project‑based contractor role. Funding efforts span housing stability, financial literacy, education, community healing, cultural preservation, and other reparations‑aligned initiatives. This role is suited for a grant writer who works independently, exercises professional judgment in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, and uses AI‑assisted tools to increase efficiency while maintaining accuracy and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue high‑alignment funding opportunities, including foundations, intermediaries, pooled funds, community partners, government, and aligned funders Independently develop, draft, revise, and submit grant proposals using original writing and AI‑assisted grant writing tools Adapt core narratives across multiple funding categories while maintaining mission alignment and factual accuracy Ensure proposals meet funder guidelines, requirements, and submission standards Track grant activity, deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements Prepare narrative components of grant reports as required Conduct outreach and follow‑up with funders and community partners to advance funding opportunities Coordinate funder conversations with organizational leadership or board members as appropriate Participate in check‑ins and reviews with organizational leadership for alignment and progress updates Use AI tools to support research and drafting, while retaining full responsibility for review, accuracy, and final submission of all materials

Required Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of professional grant writing experience Demonstrated success securing philanthropic, institutional, community‑based, and/or government funding Experience using AI tools in grant research, drafting, or revision, with clear human review and accountability Experience writing grants related to racial or social justice, housing or land‑based justice, financial literacy or education, or community development Strong writing, organization, and deadline‑management skills Ability to work independently and manage deliverables in a project‑based environment Ability to meet expected monthly hour commitments and increase availability during deadline‑heavy periods
