Title: Communications & Digital Media Manager State Role Title: PR & Mktg Mgr II Hiring Range: $79,920 - 97,200 Pay Band: 5 Agency: Dept of Prof & Occup Reg Location: DPOR Main Office Agency Website: www.dpor.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Communications & Digital Media Manager manages and develops DPOR's communications assets to support agency operations and meet the strategic goals of the Director's Office. Provides communications subject matter expertise, leadership, and coordination in the development and execution of all DPOR communications. Advises members of the Director’s office on sensitive internal and external issues. Maintains and fosters positive working relationships with DPOR Boards, the Governor’s communications office, the Secretary of Labor's office, and other DPOR stakeholders. Provides leadership and strategic advice on the agency’s public image, crisis communications, media relations, issues management and monitoring, and stakeholder relations. Oversees the agency’s communications strategy and helps set policies and promote priority initiatives. Continuously works to align communication strategy with agency vision, mission, and goals. As part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a critical role in the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified people start businesses and work in their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor and are responsible for regulating certain professions and occupations, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations. TELEWORK OPTIONS: Please note that this position may be eligible for limited telework and is not a full-time telework position. Upon hire into this position, the agency requires the incumbent to be in the position for 90 days before a specific telework schedule may be submitted for consideration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of PR and marketing methods, trends, and techniques.
  • Ability to represent DPOR before the media and in meetings with board members, government officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to promote the organization, make critical decisions, ensure organizational alignment, build relationships, and monitor the agency's economic, political, and demographic context.
  • Ability to perform under deadlines and manage controversial and sensitive assignments.
  • Ability to compose speeches, reports, presentations, and press releases.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in performing advanced-level responsibilities that include: coordinating, planning, developing, implementing, promoting, and evaluating programs that relate to public or media relations and marketing of Virginia’s positive business climate highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of regional and national politics as they pertain to the business of DPOR and its mission and initiatives preferred.
