About Us:

Voyant Photonics, based in the heart of New York City, is transforming machine perception with a new class of LiDAR devices that are compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand and powerful enough to measure range, velocity, and reflectivity with unparalleled accuracy. By leveraging cutting-edge silicon photonic chips smaller than your fingertip, we deliver sensors that are not only revolutionary in performance but also affordable enough to integrate into any system.

Our technology disrupts the status quo of bulky, expensive, and power-hungry LiDAR systems, making high-precision sensing accessible for widespread adoption in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, industrial automation, and beyond. With Voyant, the next generation of machines can see, understand, and navigate the world like never before.

Discover how we’re redefining what’s possible by making real products out of cutting-edge research in silicon photonics.

Why Join Us:

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a hybrid hardware company with a dynamic team. Your contributions will directly support new product development as we launch our first generation of sensors to the market at scale.

Position Overview:

Voyant is growing and we are hiring a Field Application Engineer (FAE) to support our customers in integrating Voyant's lidar sensors into their projects and ensuring their success. This role will collaborate with the business development team and customers on pre- and post-sale technical activities, providing both software and hardware support for the Carbon development kit and supporting the test team. As an FAE, you will develop expertise in our product features, tools, and design flows while facilitating their adoption across diverse customer systems.

The ideal candidate will have an interest or proficiency in lidar physics, electromechanical systems, basic thermal engineering, electrical system troubleshooting (using oscilloscopes and multimeters), signal protocols, computer networking, and electromechanical integration. This is a unique opportunity to engage directly with customers, solve real-world challenges, and contribute to the successful implementation of innovative lidar solutions.

Voyant is at the forefront of delivering the highest-quality and most affordable LiDAR sensing capabilities ever developed. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are excited to be part of a revolutionary product transforming the sensing landscape, we’d love to hear from you.

Preferred location: New York City, though remote work is an option, with Texas as the second preferred location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the expert liaison between Customers, Business Development, and Engineering teams.

  • Guide customers through the process of design, testing, and integration into new and existing development projects.

  • Proactively develop Proof-Of-Concept (POC) designs for various use cases and real-time applications, leveraging the latest tools and technologies.

  • Troubleshoot system applications at the customer’s request, address other engineering issues related to system applications, and conduct regular follow-ups to monitor customer activities and identify new sales opportunities.

  • Support Business Development through both pre-sale and post-sale technical activities.

  • Conduct training sessions for clients on the latest tools and technologies.

  • Communicate strategically and effectively with customers to ensure alignment and clarity.

  • Travel to customer sites up to 25% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Strong desire for continual learning and applying knowledge to solve technical challenges.

  • Initiative to self-educate and seek learning opportunities related to lidar and its applications.

  • Hands-on debugging experience with power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.

  • Experience in robotics, electromechanical systems, and sensor integration.

  • Proficiency in Python, C++, BASH, and Matlab scripting.

  • Basic understanding of signal protocols (e.g., UART, CAN, RS-232) and numerical representations (binary, hexadecimal).

  • Strong experience working in both Windows and Linux environments.

  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, including mDNS, Link-Local, IPv4, IPv6, DHCP, Subnet Mask, HTTP REST API, SSH, UDP, and TCP/IP protocols and applications.

  • Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) and related robotics software tools (desired but not required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working at LIDAR Manufacturer

Benefits Package:

  • Competitive base salary and meaningful equity package.

  • Comprehensive health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision).

  • Unlimited PTO and paid company holidays.

  • Team events and company meetups.
