We are working to create a system – a culture with a methodology and set of processes – where teachers and staff have the freedom, flexibility and invitation to design new ways of learning centered around deepening student engagement to continuously improve student success.Secondary English Language Arts Teacher, 1.0 FTE Spring Lake Park High School Start Date: 2024-2025 School YearPosition Overview The priority of this position is to create the conditions within Spring Lake Park High School for students to successfully navigate English Language Arts curriculum in the 21st century, preparing students for post-secondary success, whether they pursue enrollment, enlistment, or employment immediately following high school. Our school has an amazing population of diverse learners, with wide ranging skills. We are looking for teachers who can create personalized and engaging experiences so that each student feels valued, inspired and has a sense of belonging, resulting in college readiness and aspirations for success.Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, foster communication skills, develop an understanding and appreciation of literature of all types, motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information, comprehend and critically assess the reading materials, and to promote the development of skills in the field of English reading, grammar and syntax.Essential Functions
  • Develops and administers English education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to personalized learning and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops unit plans and instructional materials and translates unit and trimester plans into learning experiences that challenge each student, and incorporates flexible use of time, space and resources.
  • Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials, including the mass media, and a wide range of literature.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Effectively assesses and communicates each students progress in their learning with the student and their parent(s)/guardian(s).
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure each student is known by name, strength, interest and need and this information is harnessed to ensure each student experiences success and graduates with post secondary plans.

  • Innovate and can blend learning across multiple subject areas, and regularly collaborate with peers in learning communities within the school and district
  • Interested in ongoing communication with families, not only to report success and struggles, but to build relationships
  • An educator who can analyze data, set goals, learn individually and collaboratively, implement new learning, and monitor, assess, and adjust practice
PreferencesEnglish Language Arts/Communication Arts LicensureWe strongly prefer experienced candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues, and the ability to create enthusiasm through ELA curriculum with students. Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related in ELA content.QualificationsThe successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree. Candidate must possess highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability work harmoniously with a wide range of students, families, and staff members.
