Transmission Dispatcher - Central Iowa Power Cooperative - Creston, IA - work from home job Company: Central Iowa Power Cooperative Job description: Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for a Transmission Dispatcher to join the team in Creston, IA. This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and provides excellent company benefits. Work schedule is a rotating shift in our continuous operation, which includes working alone and holidays. Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job. Responsibilities • Transmission System Operation • Direct and coordinate switching for scheduled maintenance and emergencies. • Monitor system flows and maintain proper voltages. • Draft and review switch orders. • Respond to system alarms indicated by the System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer and dispatch personnel to normalize the system. • Real Time Communication • Communicate clearly and succinctly with NERC-designated operating counterparties such as the Reliability Coordinator, Balancing Authorities, and Transmission Operators. • Respond to Operating Instructions with three-part communication protocol. • Communicate and coordinate with member systems regarding outages and requests for interruption. • Coordinate dispatch of power plant generating units by communicating real time availability of the plant to the Balancing Authority, and take the Balancing Authority s directives to initiate startup, shutdown, and changing the loading of generating units. • Coordinate site emergency response and One Call locate requests. • Generation System Operation • Assist with generating plant control room operations by interacting with generation control computers to bring generating units online, offline, as well as initiate changes in loading. • Monitoring generating unit and auxiliary process values and trends. • Respond to, investigate, and troubleshoot plant equipment alarms, coordinating with plant personnel to normalize plant equipment. • Recordkeeping • Record and communicate control room activities in the written logbooks, SCADA system software, and company email. • Record hourly meter readings for generation and transmission systems. • Update transmission system dispatch board to reflect power flow and other system statuses. • Compile regular facility operations reports regarding outages, energy usage, meter readings, operating hours, water usage, fuel usage, and other items. Requirements and Critical Success Factors • High School diploma or GED. • Must have successfully completed Electric Utility System Operation Training (or equivalent) within one year of employment in this position • Ability to safely and properly use tools including but not limited to computer, SCADA software, two-way radios, telephone, calculator, and copier. • Ability to identify and mitigate electrical safety hazards, both locally and remotely. • Ability to read and understand operations manuals and electrical schematics. Ability to clearly communicate with others to accomplish tasks in respectful and efficient manner. • Ability to perform routine job-related recordkeeping quickly, completely, and accurately. • Ability to comprehend and retain detailed written, electronic, and verbal instruction. • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot emergent, unforeseen problems. • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and respond to multiple tasks in a timely fashion. • Ability to maintain awareness of imminent and potential safety hazards and take immediate preventive action by way of personal communication and remote control. • Ability to assess conditions and execute decisions in emergency situations.
