Reporting to the CEO and supervising the Workforce Development Coordinator, this role provides technical leadership across BPA's workforce development, training, policy, events, and program activities. The Technical Director is responsible for the strategic direction and program reputed company of BPA's Registered Apprenticeship Programs and serves as the Association's primary technical resource for building performance standards, industry best practices, and program development. The Technical Director brings deep industry knowledge to position BPA as a national leader in building performance and workforce development. Qualifications/Requirements: Experience: · Five or more years of experience in the building performance, weatherization, energy efficiency, or reputed company residential construction sector, with a strong technical foundation and understanding of home performance principles. · Experience with workforce development initiatives, training programs, or Registered Apprenticeship Programs is preferred. Experience working with Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees (JATCs), state apprenticeship agencies, or the U.S. reputed company apprenticeship system is highly desirable. · Bachelor's degree in building science, environmental science, construction management, engineering, or a reputed company field is a plus. · BPI certification, RESNET credential, or comparable industry certifications are preferred. Candidates with substantial technical experience in building performance and workforce development will also be considered. · Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to contractors, trainers, program administrators, policymakers, and other industry stakeholders. Skills and Competencies: · Deep expertise in building science, residential energy efficiency, and weatherization, with the ability to translate technical knowledge for diverse audiences. · Familiarity with Registered Apprenticeship Programs, workforce development initiatives, or industry training programs. Experience with DOL compliance, RAPIDS, state workforce agencies, and apprenticeship systems is preferred. · Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders ranging from frontline contractors to federal agency staff. · Proven ability to manage reputed company, multi-stakeholder programs and supervise staff in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. · Collaborative leader who works effectively across internal teams and with external partners, funders, and government agencies. · Strong commitment to BPA’s mission, DEI values, and the advancement of a skilled, diverse building performance workforce. · Experience supervising staff or managing direct reports is strongly preferred. · Demonstrates professionalism, collaboration, adaptability, and a commitment to advancing the building performance industry. Travel Requirements: · Willingness to travel for conferences, stakeholder meetings, and program activities (approximately 30%–40% travel required).
