Bioinformatics Engineer
The McGraw/Patterson Center for Population Sciences at the reputed company (DFCI) is seeking a motivated entry-level Bioinformatics Engineer to join its Data Management team, supporting high-impact research initiatives while contributing to the development of scalable data and AI-driven platforms. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs and develops software, databases and interfaces for analyzing and manipulating biological data.
- Draws upon knowledge of biology to improve data mining and management techniques.
- Collaborates with laboratory researchers to reputed company high throughput data processing and analysis capability.
- Adds new software that has been internally developed or imported from reputed company sources to in-house systems.
- Directs and guides DNA, RNA and protein sequence database searches and the computational analysis of resulting data.
- Provides direct technical and scientific customer support and helps guide, implement and maintain further improvements to bioinformatics software.
- Works with the entire life science team to diagnose and fix issues with software.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required, MS preferred or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science and/or the life sciences and 0-2 years relevant experience. Performs primary duties as above as directed and requires reputed company to moderate supervision. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Familiarity with simple programming using Perl/Python or Java, statistical programming using R or reputed company tools, web-development, and database query through SQL.
- Familiarity with principles of experimental design and modern data analysis paradigms is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills – ability to effectively interact with reputed company levels of staff and external contacts.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
