Job Description

Summary The Grid Connection Specialist plays a pivotal role in the design, modelling and grid connection assessments for our wind farms, offering expert advice and recommendations to the GE Vernova Onshore Wind business. Key responsibilities include conducting conceptual design, performing static and dynamic modeling, optimizing cost performance, and steering grid code compliance testing and ongoing compliance monitoring for GE's wind farm projects in Australia and the APAC region.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities: Electrical Simulation and Modelling: Expert in configuring and applying grid electrical simulation models for turbines and wind farms. Grid Compliance Testing: Expert in developing the commissioning test plans and conducting the on-line testing to demonstrate the grid code compliance of the wind farms. Control Systems and Technical Specifications: Proficient in simulating controls, translating grid requirements into product specifications, and defining technical specifications for wind turbines and electrical design. Risk Assessment and Compliance: Skilled in assessing grid code compliance risks and negotiating technical requirements in connection agreements. Customer Support and Issue Resolution: Experienced in supporting customers, resolving grid code concerns, and maintaining quality customer relations. Early opportunities and bidding: Experienced in identifying new product opportunities and supporting the Sales/Commercial teams in winning competitive projects. Project and Design Management: Capable of managing project grid connections, optimizing reticulation designs, and participating in industry forums. Technical Reporting and Documentation: Ability to ensure technical accuracy and prepare high-quality technical reports and documentation such as connection applications. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Effective in collaborating with utilities, subcontractors, and stakeholders to identify grid connection options and influence grid code requirements. Leadership and Development: Steering grid code compliance, supporting newer engineers, and contributing to business development efforts. Innovation and Creativity: Identifying innovative engineering solutions and opportunities to improve products and documentation. Qualifications and Experience: A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the grid connection sector in Australia is highly preferred. Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering, focusing on power systems, with experience in power system analysis using software tools such as PSSE, DigSilent PowerFactory, and PSCAD. PSCAD experience is essential. Proficiency in interpreting and applying the National Electricity Regulatory (NER) framework as it pertains to GE's technology and prospective power plant projects. Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely. Experience in power generation projects or within a utility environment. Professional experience in EPC project engineering and construction is desirable. Strong commercial acumen and the ability to support the competitive project bidding Ability to manage multiple tasks with varying pressures and prioritize demanding workloads while maintaining attention to detail. Desired Characteristics: Demonstrates flexibility and a positive, can-do attitude, with a willingness to collaborate with global teams from diverse backgrounds and different time zones. Willingness to travel within the APAC region for short durations. Ability to participate in out-of-hours teleconferences to engage with GE’s international teams.
