Welcome to the State of New York's Department of Emergency Services and Disaster Preparedness Program. We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Disaster Preparedness Program Representative 1. This role is essential in ensuring the safety and preparedness of our communities in the event of a disaster. As a representative, you will play a crucial role in implementing and maintaining disaster preparedness programs throughout the state. If you have a strong background in emergency management, excellent communication skills, and a drive to make a difference, we encourage you to apply for this position. Together, we can work towards a safer and more resilient New York. Develop and implement disaster preparedness programs across the state, in coordination with other team members and agencies. Conduct research and stay updated on best practices in emergency management, to continually improve the preparedness programs. Collaborate with local communities and organizations to identify potential risks and develop strategies for mitigation and response. Train and educate individuals and communities on disaster preparedness, including evacuation procedures, emergency supplies, and communication plans. Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure effective and efficient response to disasters. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all disaster preparedness activities. Participate in drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of disaster preparedness plans. Respond to inquiries and provide information to the public regarding disaster preparedness. Monitor and assess potential hazards and risks, and provide recommendations for preventative measures. Attend meetings and conferences to stay informed on current emergency management practices and policies. Assist in the development and dissemination of emergency alerts and warnings. Collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to build partnerships and promote disaster preparedness. Stay up-to-date on state and federal regulations related to emergency management and ensure compliance. Provide support and assistance during actual disasters, including coordinating response efforts and providing resources to affected communities. Act as a liaison between the department and other agencies, organizations, and the public, to foster effective communication and coordination during emergencies.
