Virtual Special Education Onboarding and Transition Coordinator

The Special Education Onboarding and Transition Coordinator is primarily responsible for training new Intervention Specialists in conjunction with the general Onboarding Coordinator. Conduct weekly and monthly follow-up training initiatives specific to special education initiatives and use of special education programs. Work with intervention specialist, families, and students with disabilities to assist in ensuring that the student has the necessary vocational skills experience and education that will enable the student to be a self-supporting citizen, upon graduation.

Responsibilities

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER ONBOARDING

  • Work closely with the general teacher Onboarding Coordinator with developing training and onboarding training opportunities specifically for Intervention Specialists
  • Provide support for a period of time to assist newer Intervention Specialists in day-to-day workflow activities
  • Serve as District Representative to newer Intervention Specialists to our Ohio online schools for the first three IEP and/or ETR meetings and provide constructive feedback
  • Conduct monthly follow-up trainings with newly hired Intervention Specialists to target continued areas of process and need
  • Obtain RESA mentoring credentials for Intervention Specialists new to the profession
  • Work closely with Special Education Coordinators and Manager to provide additional training opportunities and Professional Development activities that support teacher development throughout our Ohio online schools
  • Perform other duties as assigned

TRANSITION COORDINATOR

  • Provide IEP Case Managers the most up-to-date information on transition to life activities and opportunities for students ages 13 and above through monthly Live or Asynchronous updates to share with SWD staff
  • Periodically communicate with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities liaison for referrals
  • Develop and maintain a database of Age Appropriate Assessments and activities teachers and students can complete in accordance with the students IEP's.
  • Communicate frequently with teachers and parents of students with the highest needs to ensure they have the services they need from Ohio Board of Developmental Disabilities
  • Be willing to participate in Professional Development activities provided by Ohio Department of Education
  • Focus end-of-year activities on students who are graduating to ensure the necessary services are connected such as through Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities or the student's local board of Developmental Disabilities.
  • Provide assistance as needed to provide additional support to IEP Case Managers to ensure compliance with Indicator 13
  • Periodically review a prescribed number of IEP's in accordance with Indicator 13 checklist and provide additional follow up training for compliance
  • Participate as a member of the Internal Monitoring team
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Master's Degree Preferred
  • Transition to Work certification or willingness to work towards obtaining state certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience providing special education services in an online model
  • Current Ohio Special Education Teacher or Administrator Certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates a reliable, dependable, and trustworthy work ethic.
  • Ability to manage difficult or emotional client situations
  • Ability to make sound judgments after all available information has been gathered or communicated.
  • Demonstrates a mature attitude and insight into matters affecting department, self and / or company welfare.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently.

  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks

Compensation and Benefits: The compensation and benefits information below is accurate as of the date of this posting. The annual starting salary for this position is between $55,000 – $70,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
