Lead Video Game Concept Artist
Our client, a critically acclaimed video game studio located in Fort Worth, Texas , is seeking an exceptionally talented and visionary Lead Video Game Concept Artist to guide their art team in crafting breathtaking visual worlds. This hybrid role requires a blend of in-studio creative collaboration and remote flexibility. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the artistic direction for our upcoming AAA titles, translating game design documents into compelling visual concepts that define the aesthetic of our games. Responsibilities include: Establishing and driving the overall visual style and art direction for video game projects, ensuring consistency and high quality across all assets. Creating stunning and innovative concept art for characters, environments, props, and special effects, adhering to established art direction and game design specifications. Collaborating closely with game designers, level designers, and art directors to visualize gameplay mechanics, narrative elements, and world-building concepts. Providing clear and constructive feedback to a team of concept artists, guiding their work and ensuring artistic integrity and alignment with project goals. Developing detailed mood boards, style guides, and visual documentation to communicate the artistic vision effectively to the wider development team. Exploring and presenting multiple artistic solutions to design challenges, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills. Staying ahead of industry trends in game art, technology, and concept art techniques, and integrating new ideas into the development process. Working with 3D modelers and technical artists to ensure concepts are feasible for implementation within game engines. Contributing to the overall creative process, offering insights and ideas to enhance the player experience and visual appeal of the game. Mentoring and developing junior concept artists, fostering their growth and creativity. Maintaining an organized and efficient workflow for concept art production. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Digital Art, Illustration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 8+ years of professional experience in concept art for video games, with a portfolio showcasing exceptional talent in character, environment, and prop design for AAA titles. Proven experience in a Lead or Senior role, with demonstrated ability to guide and mentor other artists. Mastery of digital art software such as Photoshop, Procreate, and potentially 3D sculpting tools (e.g., ZBrush, Blender). Strong understanding of art fundamentals, including composition, color theory, perspective, anatomy, and lighting. Ability to translate written descriptions and abstract ideas into compelling visual concepts. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate artistic vision clearly. Experience working within game development pipelines and understanding technical constraints. Passion for video games and a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. Ability to adapt to different art styles and project requirements.
