Editorial Lead (Political Narratives & Storytelling)

100% remote Flexible hours Hiring now

Location: Remote (U.S. based) Contract: Employment Reporting to: Chief Strategy Officer Salary: Competitive, aligned with senior-level editorial roles We are looking for a political journalist or editor who wants to apply their craft beyond the newsroom-someone who understands politics, power, and narrative, and can turn complex realities into clear, compelling stories. Our Common Home is a fast-growing global network that brings those left out of the existing climate movement into the conversation about how to protect their environment, on their own terms. We are a network of 20 entities worldwide, with a team of over 120 people, working across diverse political and cultural contexts. Our network partners, based in critical nations around the world, work to take climate and environment out of the polarization dynamics that increasingly undermine the possibility of achieving the broad support needed for effective environmental action. We are driven by respect for ordinary people whose values or way of life leave them excluded from the current climate and environment debate. We share the mainstream values of our partners. Our network is rooted in the communities where we work. We seek to build trust with these audiences, and we do this by partnering with the institutions they trust. Together with these partners, we run campaigns that build new solutions and approaches to climate change and environmental issues that are more rooted in the lives, values and priorities of ordinary people. By doing so, we create the political space required for lasting action. We are hiring an Editorial Lead to take ownership of how our work is written about, understood, and supported by donors and partners. This is a writing-led, editorial role. You will source, shape, and write narratives grounded in political and cultural context, working closely with teams across countries to translate complex realities into persuasive, high-quality content. You will act as the editorial lead on donor-facing materials, including proposals, briefings, and core narratives. This is not a coordination or general communications role; it is a hands-on editorial position focused on writing, narrative, and quality for someone with strong editorial judgement and a clear voice.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Leadership & Narrative Development

  • Lead the development of high-quality donor narratives, including proposals, concept notes, pitch decks, and strategic materials
  • Act as the primary writer and editor on key organisational outputs
  • Own and continuously refine the organisation’s core narrative and positioning
  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and editorial quality across all external content

Political & Contextual Storytelling

  • Source and develop stories grounded in local political and cultural contexts
  • Work closely with country teams to understand on-the-ground dynamics, power structures, and lived realities
  • Translate complex political and programmatic work into clear, structured, and compelling narratives
  • Apply strong editorial judgement to shape narratives that are both accurate and persuasive

Content for Donor & Partner Audiences

  • Produce high-quality written materials, including:
  • Donor briefings
  • Narrative updates
  • Event and webinar content
  • Core organisational materials
  • Write for non-specialist audiences without losing nuance or depth
  • Ensure all outputs meet a high bar for clarity, tone, and credibility

Collaboration & Strategic Input

  • Work closely with Campaigns, Content, and Fundraising teams to align on messaging and narrative direction
  • Contribute to discussions on strategy, positioning, and framing
  • Bring an editorial perspective into how the organisation communicates its work externally

Experience and Skills

  • 5+ years’ experience in political journalism, reporting, or editorial roles
  • Strong track record of published writing and editorial output
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills in English (minimum 5 years full-time experience)
  • High level of political literacy, with the ability to understand and synthesise complex issues
  • Experience writing for different audiences, including policy, media, or strategic communications
  • Comfortable working remotely across time zones and collaborating with diverse teams

Profile You might currently be:

  • A political reporter or correspondent
  • An editor or senior writer
  • A journalist looking to apply your skills in a mission-driven or international context

You are:

  • Curious, rigorous, and attentive to nuance
  • A strong writer with a clear and confident editorial voice
  • Comfortable working independently and managing your own output
  • Interested in the intersection of politics, climate, and social impact

  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Premium healthcare coverage
  • Fully remote working environment
  • Dedicated professional development budget
