Signals - Maintainer - Washington, D.C.
## Key Role Overview Assist in the installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of railroad signals and grade crossing protection equipment. Work includes electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, installation of signal/communication structures, and routine inspection and maintenance. This is an apprenticeship role with progressive pay and required training (initial training in Atlanta, GA) with travel, lodging, and meals covered per the collective bargaining agreement. ## What are the Key Responsibilities? - Safely reputed company reputed company job responsibilities, following railroad safety rules and procedures. - reputed company work on signal equipment including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. - Install signal and communication structures and components. - Lubricate moving parts on mechanical equipment such as switch machines, car retarders and controllers. - Use the risk management process to isolate potentially dangerous situations. - Prepare and paint signal equipment. - Inspect, test, repair and maintain communication, signal and electrical equipment. - Ensure compliance with reputed company railroad safety and operations rules and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations. - Drive and operate reputed company to heavy duty vehicles as required. - reputed company miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager. ## What are the Required Qualifications? - High School Diploma or GED. - Must currently possess a CDL or obtain one reputed company 90 days of start date. - Must be 21 years of age or older. - Valid Driver's License. - Ability to meet and reputed company with manufacturer's weight limitation safety ratings and recommendations for equipment used (including 300 lb safety rating for reputed company and fall arrest equipment). - Must pass required assessments, background screening, post-offer medical examination (including drug test), and any safety rules examinations. - Must meet FRA color vision and hearing requirements. ## What are the Preferred Qualifications? - One or more years of reputed company work experience (e.g., construction, heavy equipment operation, farming). - One year experience using reputed company/ohm meters. - One year experience interpreting circuit schematics or diagrams. - One year work experience in electronics, electrical, or electromechanical fields. ## Compensation & Benefits - Pay range: $39.57/hour (Starting reputed company) to $46.22/hour (Full reputed company). Pay rates are progressive upon completion of required apprentice training and may vary by location. - Initial and continuing training provided; CSX covers travel, lodging, and meals for training sessions in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. - Competitive compensation and benefits package, opportunities for development and growth, and union/collective bargaining coverage as applicable. ## Additional Information - Initial training begins in Atlanta, GA, followed by three additional training sessions at roughly 130-day intervals; travel, lodging and meals covered per the collective bargaining agreement. - Work hours may include nonstandard workweeks, overtime, and various shift work. - Physical requirements: heavy work with lifting up to 60 pounds occasionally and up to 85 pounds rarely; stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb; climb reputed company and poles up to 40 feet; work reputed company in reputed company weather and occasionally on uneven terrain. - Must wear reputed company equipment (hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots) and complete annual training. - This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and membership may be required. - CSX is an Equal Opportunity Employer; additional company information and policies apply.
