The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an accomplished, motivated and experienced Senior Trade Mark Attorney to join our expanding and friendly team.

This is a senior role with significant responsibility, including line management of junior team members and playing a key role in developing and maintaining strong client relationships. You will act as a trusted adviser and a central point of contact for clients, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, commercially focused trade mark support across their portfolios.

We work for a wide range of clients with well-loved household name brands, of all shapes and sizes (up to some of the largest UK-led global portfolios, but with a healthy mix of smaller clients too).

The Team

We pride ourselves on having a close-knit, collaborative and friendly team. We are also at the cutting edge of using technology and data to deliver our services, with technology and operational specialists working alongside us to enhance efficiency and encourage innovation.

Our trade mark prosecution team is growing, offering valuable opportunities for motivated candidates to take on leadership responsibilities and progress their careers. The team is highly integrated with our wider IP practice, providing opportunities to work on a broad range of matters and to collaborate with specialists in areas such as licensing and litigation.

Key responsibilities

  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients, building and maintaining trusted, long-term relationships.
  • Managing incoming work and allocating matters effectively across the team, working closely with clients where appropriate.
  • Supervising team capacity, utilisation, quality and delivery.
  • Supervising, mentoring and developing junior team members and paralegals.
  • Providing strategic, commercially focused advice on trade mark and design matters.
  • Managing trade mark portfolios, including global filing strategies and coordination with international agents.
  • Conducting and overseeing trade mark searches and watch services.
  • Filing and prosecuting trade mark and design applications through to registration.
  • Handling contentious matters, including pre-opposition advice and preparing and managing opposition, cancellation and revocation actions.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across legal delivery, technology and operations.

Required experience, skills and attributes

  • Qualified Chartered Trade Mark Attorney or Solicitor.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK trade mark law, with experience of managing or supporting global trade mark portfolios.
  • Experience in advising on filing strategies and managing international trade mark work.
  • Demonstrable experience in supervising or mentoring junior team members.
  • Effective client management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in process improvement and innovation.
  • Keen attention to detail, analytical skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive and team-oriented approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
