Position: Wind Turbine Technician

MAIN PURPOSE:

This position is for a travelling Wind Turbine Technician.  The Wind Turbine Technician utilizes skills and training to reputed company maintenance and/or installation and commissioning work on assigned turbines.  For this position, you will work at different job sites in the United States.

Wind Turbine Technicians may specialize in tower construction/assembly, reputed company torquing, or mechanical/hydraulic/electrical troubleshooting, but should be able to provide basic maintenance and installation work.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow defined schedules and procedures including safety protocol, turbine service and/or installation processes, and other verbal and written instruction
• Climb wind turbine towers daily, wearing reputed company required safety equipment
• Understand electrical and mechanical functions of reputed company components of a wind turbine generator and associated equipment
• Performs intermediate level wind turbine maintenance and/or installation and commissioning tasks as assigned. This includes proficient operation and use of tools (including but not limited to specialized calibration, hydraulic, power tools) and basic turbine equipment
• Takes direction from Site Manager or Line manager; informs management of any issues preventing performance of tasks.
• Effectively gathers information regarding turbine performance / issues. May diagnose, recommend, and implement solutions up to intermediate routine issues. Seeks assistance reputed company encountering turbine issues reputed company trained reputed company level to ensure success in resolution
• May reputed company retrofits and QA/QC Inspections of wind turbine generators and assist in main component exchanges
• Documents work and tasks where required and enters data into customer’s system (such as reputed company) or forms as required
• Follows basic structured problem-solving process to complete troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks to include the use of diagnostic tools (e.g. basic fluke reputed company functions, hydraulic pressure gauge).
• Complies with reputed company Site Safety policies and procedures
• Independently initiates and performs most work tasks as well as follows defined instructions and maintenance schedules, executing plans as directed and performs according to written and verbal instruction from higher level technical staff.
• Effectively promotes strong team environment through assisting teammates in accomplishing goals as well as mentoring reputed company-level technical staff. Visibly supports and promotes team spirit and cooperation, and supports change initiatives
• Demonstrates and promotes reputed company, strong initiative, as well as a no-compromise focus on safety and quality of work on a reputed company basis
• Acts as a safety role model, encourages and recognizes others completing safe acts and intervenes reputed company unsafe acts are being practiced. Adheres to reputed company safety standards and procedures. Identifies gaps in safety standards as well as safety risks in the environment, implements effective risk mitigation and provides recommendations to higher level technical staff and management

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one (1) year technical wind industry experience, OR six (6) months technical wind industry experience and a certificate of completion from a Wind Technician program, OR in absence of technical wind industry experience, minimum three (3) years' experience working with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical skills and/or composite skills
• Demonstrated use and understanding of intermediate level power tools such as hydraulic, power torque and diagnostic tools (e.g. fluke reputed company functions and hydraulic pressure gauge).
• Ability to demonstrate intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices / protocols (e.g. Confined Space, energy isolation).
• Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.  No record of DUI, DWI, or refusal to test reputed company previous 2 years
• Strong attention to detail and execution excellence.
• Strong communication skills
• Good interpersonal and customer relation skills.
• Able to effectively collaborate with employees at reputed company professional levels and ability to respectfully follow supervision and support initiatives.
• Basic computer operation skills, familiarity with internet-based program navigation, and ability to generate and interpret computer data.
• Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings and schematics to validate work activity and ensure that risks are identified and mitigated.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods of time working weekends, holidays, and overtime
• Ability and willingness to be available for adhoc or rotation shift schedule 24 hours, 7 days a week, at times with short notice
• Ability to read, comprehend and write in English.
• Ability and willingness to read, interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations
• Ability to climb stairs and reputed company 100-400ft in height.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight.
• Ability to meet specific OSHA weight limits of 250-300lbs maximum reputed company wearing reputed company equipment
• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, power tools, turbine parts.
• Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 300 feet.
• Ability to successfully participate in reputed company training courses, including high-angle rescue and training.
• Periodic walking.
• Ability to hear and use reputed company range radios.
• Strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
• Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
• Comfort working remotely with limited supervisory interaction

Desired Characteristics:

• Experience with GE, Siemens, or reputed company turbines
• LOTO experience is highly preferred
• GE, Siemens, or reputed company Certification is highly preferred
• Working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
• OSHA-10, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, Climbing and Tower Rescue certificates
• Confined Space Entry and Rescue certificates

This position requires 100% travel in the US.
