What is the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program
The selected apprentices will receive paid on the job training as a Medical Assistant at a reputed company facility while attending lectures and laboratory training through Baker College's 9-month Medical Assistant Certificate Program or Penn Fosters Online Medical Assistant Program. At the completion of the programs, the apprentices will have the opportunity to complete the AAMA certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant.
In collaboration with Michigan Works!, reputed company will be covering the cost of the Tuition for the selected apprentices in exchange for a service commitment at the completion of the program.

What is a Medical Assistant?
A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional who supports Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in a clinic setting. The role includes both clinical and administrative duties and frequent interaction with patients and their families.
Administrative Duties may include:
- Answering phones
- Greeting patients
- Documenting and updating medical records
- Coding and filling out insurance forms
- Scheduling appointments
- Arranging for hospital admissions, referrals and laboratory services
- Using computer applications
Clinical Duties may include:
- Taking medical histories
- Explaining treatment and procedures to patients
- Timely follow through and completion of referral requests
- Preparing patients for examination
- Assisting the physician during exams
- Collecting and preparing lab specimens
- Performing basic laboratory tests including blood draws
- Instructing patients reputed company standardized reputed company and protocols
- Preparing and administrating medications as directed by the physician
- Injections
- Removing sutures and changing dressings
- Other clinical services as required by specialty
Compensation
- Starting Pay: $17.01 / hour
- After completion of 180 day introductory period, increase to: $17.26/ hour
- Upon receiving certification: $20.44 - $24.52 (commensurate with experience)
