Developer Augmentation Engineer
MatX is developing frontier AI models to enhance ML workload efficiency. The Developer Augmentation Engineer will support architects by reducing their workload and improving workflows with AI, while also engaging in hands-on work to gain a deeper understanding of the company's hardware and software architecture.
Responsibilities

- Our hardware architecture: spec, diagrams, rationale
- Rust simulator for our architecture
- RTL code of our behemoth-scale AI Acceleration ASIC
- Design Verification of this ASIC
- Infrastructure to enable all of the above
- High-level Python simulations for architectural features
- ML experiments for validating our approach to AI
- Writing RL environments to improve frontier-llm performance on hardware design tasks
Skills
- 0 - 2 years of experience with systems programming using Rust / Python / HDLs
- Linux experience is a must
- Non-coursework projects preferred; among HDLs, RTL experience preferred
- You are a strong communicator, with the ability to flex to various styles
- You have a 'Get Things Done' mentality
- You are genuinely interested in people and see the support of others as enabling people's best work for the success of the company
- You are able to context switch, shifting between tactical and big-picture
- You believe that kindness matters
- This is a hybrid role that will require you to work from our Mountain View, CA office 3 days a week on Tuesday through Thursday
- Experience optimizing hardware or software
- ML experience, especially with LLMs
- Infrastructure experience: Google Cloud Platform and Github
- Experience with CLI coding agents: incl. Codex / Claude Code / Gemini CLI
