About the position This position is open to Alaskan Residents only. Please check out the residency definition to determine if you qualify. Shape Alaska's Digital History Help build the future of the Alaska State Electronic Records Archives (ASERA) and ensure generations of Alaskans can access their government's history online. You'll preserve and make discoverable 45+ terabytes of electronic records , partnering across the Division to deliver lasting public impact.

Responsibilities

  • Preserve at scale: Appraise, arrange, describe, and safeguard a growing corpus of born-digital records and digital objects.
  • Standardize and optimize: Establish and implement metadata standards; refine end-to-end workflows for long-term digital preservation.
  • Collaborate across LAM: Work closely with Records Analysts, archivists, and state-documents librarians to ensure durable access for citizens, students, and researchers.
  • Serve Alaskans: Provide responsive reference and outreach services to government officials, historians, academic researchers, and the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any major subject area; AND Two years of professional archival work experience at the entry level. The required experience includes work such as Archivist 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in history, library studies, public administration, anthropology, computer studies, cross-cultural studies, legal studies, Northern studies, political science, information and records systems management, sociology or social science, or another closely related field; AND One year of professional archival work experience at the entry level. The required experience includes work such as Archivist 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
  • Valid Driver`s License required.

  • Three (3) professional references with current contact information, at minimum two of which are current or former supervisors. Nice-to-haves
  • Specialized training in Archives and in Digital and Electronic Records Preservation an asset but not required.
  • Certified Archivist or Certified Records Manager preferred but not required.
