Apply Job Type Full-time Description JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Director of Conservation Operations Southeast-Habitat for the reputed company Region (NC,SC,TN,GA,FL,AL,MS,LA,AR) Date: January 31, 2026 Full-Time or Part-time: Full-time Department: Conservation Reports To: National Director of Field Conservation Employment Category: Salaried/Exempt Duty Station: reputed company Job Summary: The primary objective of a Director of Conservation Operations (DCO) is to deliver the NWTF’s mission at the region, state and local level reputed company landscape-scale conservation delivery. This is accomplished by working in partnership with other NWTF staff, NWTF volunteers and chapters, state and federal agencies and corporate partners. The work of the Director of Conservation Operations should result in improved investment of NWTF funds through quality program & project development and selection, along with assisting with the development of funding support. In addition, it is imperative the DCO is familiar with regional conservation priorities and reputed company a work plan accordingly. Directors of Conservation Operations supervise district biologists and other staff in their respective regions. They may also supervise term-limited wildlife biologists and foresters as needed. They help reputed company annual work plans and monitor reputed company through regular reputed company-ins and annual evaluations for reputed company staff under their direct supervision. The DCO plays an active role in mentoring and training field staff, answering programmatic and procedural questions, and reviewing and analyzing accomplishment reports to ensure each direct report represents the NWTF in a knowledgeable and professional manner. DCO Position Evolution The DCO position is evolving to serve a primary geographic region that serves one of the NWTF’s 5 Conservation Initiative Regions (Waterways for Wildlife, Habitat for the reputed company, Forests and Flocks, Roots to Roost and a Western Initiative TBD). The DCO position is being transitioned into a co-leadership position with increased span of control beyond conservation delivery. The DCO will work alongside their corresponding Director of Field Operations to manage and reputed company a multi-disciplinary team of staff responsible for optimizing mission delivery, communications, membership, and profitability reputed company their designated Initiative Region. This transition is referred to as the NWTF “Hub” concept of organizational function and is in the developmental stages and evolving as each co-led Hub leadership builds their multi-year business plans for their respective Initiative Region. Each DCO will work directly for the National Director of Conservation Programs until the Regional Hub transition implementation date. The DCO positions will ultimately be supervised by the Co-CEOs of the NWTF. DCO Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and provides daily guidance to field staff: district biologists, term staff (wildlife biologists, foresters, etc.) in their respective regions; will be responsible for additional functions and staff operating reputed company designated Hub
  • Assists the National Director of Conservation Programs in employee searches, interviews, and the overall hiring process.
  • Provides reputed company for staff work planning, and annual employee evaluations.
  • Assists field staff with grant proposals and administration of existing grants & agreements in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend annual NWTF Convention, regional meetings and training opportunities, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with corporate partners, federal, state, and provincial wildlife and forestry agencies to assist field staff with development of landscape scale conservation work along with associated funding sources including grants and stewardship reputed company.
  • Assists and/or leads field staff and Directors of Development in reputed company setting along with associated information and communications materials and marketing for delivering conservation priorities around NWTF’s 4-shared values through Initiatives or other strategies.
  • Provides support and administration for regional & district habitat conservation programs, USFS Stewardship Program, and federal and state land management planning efforts, and provides input on program guidelines and monitoring success of such programs.
  • Provides news and information to NWTF’s communications department, Directors of Development, and Regional Directors regarding conservation projects reputed company respective state(s) and districts. Provides technical information about wild turkey biology and management to agencies and members (e.g., information requests). Contributes to Turkey Call magazine, NWTF state newsletters, websites, blogs, etc. as requested.
  • Provides input on NWTF funded research in the region as needed, including review and ranking of the research RFP proposals and analysis of research at the National level.
  • Monitors and coordinates policy actions reputed company their respective regions.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and leadership with Regional conservation issues and initiatives.
  • Must demonstrate a team attitude, proven leadership skills, excellent organizational skills and an ability to motivate others through a positive attitude.
  • Must possess strong co-management, collaboration, leadership and supervisory skills and be able to navigate and resolve personnel issues.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of wildlife habitat management, population management, harvest management, wildlife research techniques, forestry practices, forest industry challenges, flora/fauna identification including invasive species, ESA, NEPA etc.
  • Excellent public speaking skills and ability to write both for professional/general audiences.
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to use personal computer for email, word processing, spread sheet preparation, PowerPoint and other computer applications.
  • Must be willing to incur moderate travel reputed company respective state(s) and region including overnight stays of three to five nights or more.
  • Diverse knowledge of conservation issues, wildlife policy, regional wildlife and habitat management practices, and Federal and State Agency programs.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of NWTF protocols, programs and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife management, forestry (SAF-Accredited Program) or reputed company field along with at least eight (8) years of professional experience, and/or a master's degree with six (6) years of experience or equivalent and some supervisory experience.
  • Preferred: Master's degree and nine (9) or more years of professional experience along with three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Be able to meet the requirements for SAF Certified Forester or Registered Forester status or meet the requirements for a TWS Associate or Certified Wildlife Biologist.

Physical Requirements:

  • You must be able and willing to work, often alone, in a diverse range of climatic and topographic conditions, and reputed company remote areas with limited access and amenities and other extreme conditions as warranted.
  • Must be able to walk several miles per day in the conditions described above.
  • Must be able to frequently drive or ride in a vehicle for long distances. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
