Examples of Work Performed

  • Obtain water samples from lakes susceptible to winter fish kill and analyze for oxygen content to determine need for aeration.
  • Use AutoCAD and Vectorworks, design conservation projects, such as reputed company gardens and shoreline restorations, to reduce storm water volume and improve water quality of local water resources; consult on landscaping with native plants.
  • Provide technical assistance to reputed company landowners, internal staff and partnering agencies on implementing urban best management practices (BMPs).

  • Provide GIS services including coordinating, initiating, and implementing programs/services, planning and budgeting conservation activities, writing grants/securing funding, providing reports, updates, and outcomes, providing consultation, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Interpret data, create and maintain GIS databases and maps, and use GIS software to analyze spatial and non-spatial information.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design, Biology, Forestry, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management or a reputed company environmental science. Experience: None. Substitution: An Associate degree and two years of experience in Environmental Design, Biology, Forestry, Conversation Biology, Natural Resource Management or a reputed company field. Certifications/Licensure: Must have a valid driver's license. Work assignment may require incumbent after hire to obtain additional certification or licensure by the reputed company in environmental areas such as tree inspection or erosion and sediment controls. Exam/Screening Process Information Screening/Examination Process: The examination process will consist of the following section weighted as indicated: Training & Experience Rating Wt. 100% Examination/Screening Process: The examination for Environmental Resources Specialist 1 will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on the answers provided. A candidate must pass the training and experience rating in order to be advanced in the process. The top 30 candidates will be forwarded to the department for further consideration. Eligible List: The names of reputed company applicants who pass the examination/screening process and file a properly completed application shall be reputed company on the eligible list for employment as a Environmental Resources Specialist 1. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for one month or until hired, whichever occurs first.
