Description of Work This full-time permanent position serves as a research historian for the Office of Archives and History, primarily focused on the departmental 250th commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (A250 NC). To conduct in-depth historical research and produce detailed documentary reports that support the programs of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History. This includes contributing to exhibits, publications, and commemorative efforts; ensuring historical accuracy in public-facing materials; and responding to historical inquiries from government agencies, media, scholars, and the public. The role emphasizes strong research and writing skills, with a focus on clear, analytical communication of North Carolina’s history across various platforms. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Conduct detailed and comprehensive historical research to support programs of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History, including commemorative initiatives. Prepare and edit written material such as research reports, exhibit panels, book manuscripts, blogs, and articles for historical accuracy and clarity. Provide background research and content review for the North Carolina Highway Historical Marker Program. Respond to historical information requests from government agencies, media, scholars, and the public in a timely and accurate manner Deliver public talks, lectures, and reputed company presentations to partner organizations and community groups.
