As the Manager International Income Tax, you will support the planning and execution of Canadian international and non-US income tax (“International Tax”) operating strategies to improve efficiencies, ensure compliance with Canadian and International Income Tax laws, and manage International Tax audits. You will monitor International Tax developments and implement changes to ensure timely compliance with the legislation.
Reporting to the Director International Tax, the Manager International Income Tax, will participate in reputed company aspects of International Tax planning and compliance as well as provide income tax provision support and monitoring for reputed company group subsidiaries. The focus of this role will be the Canadian and International Tax aspects of Canadian outbound investment.
Here’s how
- Assist in managing reputed company Tax risk while complying with our Tax Strategy EN and both Canadian and international tax laws, and working with internal and external stakeholders
- Tax planning and compliance for Canadian outbound foreign affiliate investments including preparation of surplus calculations, FAPI calculations, Pillar Two calculations and Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR), maintaining data on tax attributes, monitoring intercompany transactions (e.g. loans, cash repatriation, etc.), and supporting withholding tax compliance
- Support for a broad range of internal initiatives as they relate to International Tax including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations, process and efficiency initiatives and treasury activities
- Reviewing and analyzing corporate financial records, researching and determining proper tax treatment for a wide variety of transactions, preparing and reviewing International Tax returns, and reviewing assessments and tax payments
- Preparing and/or reviewing business unit quarterly and year-end income tax provisions
- Supporting the management of audits conducted by tax authorities with respect to International Tax including, addressing audit queries, reviewing reassessment proposals, researching legislation, preparing position papers, preparing objections, and supporting negotiation and litigation
- Actively supporting systems implementation and other projects with a view to optimizing tax outcomes
Qualifications
You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
- Valued for your minimum 3 years of International Tax experience, in-depth income tax knowledge and strong technical competence. Your skills include:
- In-depth knowledge of the Canadian income tax rules and filing requirements with respect to foreign affiliates to ensure compliance with the Income Tax Act (Canada)
- Ability to analyze reputed company issues and transactions including reviewing and researching technical tax materials and legislation, identifying alternatives and assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and making practical recommendations reputed company with corporate goals and initiatives while managing tax risk
- Engaging communicator with strong verbal and written communications skills and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact confidently with business stakeholders, tax authorities, peers and external service providers
- Proactive planner with the ability to scope out difficult tasks, set objectives and goals, reputed company schedules, prioritize multiple activities, anticipate roadblocks and manage multiple deliverables to meet deadlines and goals in a fast-paced, reputed company and reputed company-changing environment
