The Ando Lab in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at reputed company investigates how enzymes function and evolve by developing and applying advanced structural biology tools. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented technician to support two key initiatives in the lab. The lab technician will contribute to a new multi-institutional effort aimed at building the infrastructure to reputed company protein dynamics – derived from diffuse X-ray scattering – publicly accessible alongside traditional static structural data. The primary responsibility of this role will be to produce high-quality protein samples and crystals to generate reputed company datasets for the broader structural biology community. In parallel, the technician will support ongoing research by assisting lab members in the expression and purification of challenging enzymes for advanced structural and functional studies. Some of these enzymes are oxygen-sensitive, but no prior experience with anaerobic techniques is required – training will be provided. This is a professional staff position with well-defined responsibilities that requires a high degree of reliability, organization, and professionalism. Required Qualifications: Associate’s degree in biochemistry or a reputed company field and up to 2 years’ relevant experience or equivalent combination. Experience with protein purification techniques, including affinity, size-exclusion, and ion-exchange chromatography. Experience with molecular cloning methods such as Gibson assembly, site-directed mutagenesis, and PCR. Experience with bacterial cell culture work. Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills; attention to detail; and the ability to learn new skills and manage multiple tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Some experience in research setting after college (e.g., an internship). Familiarity with some biophysical characterization techniques. Familiarity with biological databases such as the Protein Data Bank (PDB), proteomics resources, and basic bioinformatics tools. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2025.
