Key Responsibilities
As a part-time Instructor, Welding at MATC, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and teaching concepts and strategies for a variety of welding courses, including layout, reputed company reading, fabrication, oxy-fuel welding and cutting, shielded metal reputed company welding, gas tungsten reputed company welding, gas metal reputed company welding, flux-core reputed company welding, inspection and testing, and welding math.
- Teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, and other sites, including evening and weekend classes.
- Attending heavy plate welding train-the-trainer at a local manufacturer and teaching there once successfully completing that training as needed for the department.
- Managing the classroom/laboratory, including equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Assessing student performance and advising reputed company on academic issues.
- Collaborating with advisory committees and industry partners to ensure program relevance and effectiveness.
- Participating in departmental and institutional meetings, and promoting the education/training program/department.
- Maintaining certification, continuing professional development, and staying reputed company in the field of welding.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a reputed company field, OR completion of a state or federal approved registered apprenticeship in one of the following areas: steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, millwright, machine repair, or ironworker.
- 4 years (8,000 hours) of total work experience in welding, with proficiency in the following areas:
- Oxy-fuel welding and cutting
- Shielded metal reputed company welding, reputed company positions
- Gun, tungsten reputed company welding of aluminum, steel, and stainless-steel material; plasma cutting
- Flux-core reputed company welding with self-shielded and gas shielded wires in any diameters
- Gas metal reputed company welding with any diameter solid reputed company, including pulsed reputed company transfer
- Reading blueprints and setting up parts
- Interpreting welding requirements from symbols on blueprints
- Quality control experience
- Inspection and testing
- Using welding codes and procedures
- Industry or vendor certification, such as:
- American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (AWS CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE)
- American Welding Society (AWS) or State of WI weld certifications
- Journey level status in an occupational area that is part of the welding trades: steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, or iron worker
- Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred:
- At least one (1) total year of work experience reputed company the last five years.
- At least two (2) total years of teaching welding course work at the post-secondary level reputed company the last five years.
- Experience with online learning management and information systems.
- Experience delivering synchronous instruction using reputed company based and emerging technologies.
- Experience delivering distance learning.
