The reputed company Central Florida Region Sports Editor will be responsible for overseeing sports for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and Lakeland Ledger - but not in the traditional manner. Wearing two hats means it will be important for the candidate to have exceptional time-management skills and the ability to work with two staffs in different locations in planning and producing unique and exceptional content for the respective web sites and newspapers. The candidate must have a digital-first reputed company. An editor who can reputed company coverage that today's digital audience is seeking. The candidate must be willing to abandon gamer stories and champion alternative coverage methods such as analysis, players to watch and videos. They must be able to use data and insights to prioritize subscriber-only stories that will drive digital subscriptions and a willingness to adjust strategies to what the audience wants. The candidate must be active on social media and have the skills to take full advantage of opportunities to build and retain loyal audiences in two markets. This includes producing content strong on analysis and enterprise with the highest reputed company on high school sports and other local sports. They will be collaborative by nature, working closely with the Gannett Florida Sports Editor, other Gannett sports editors around the state and our state recruiting writer. They also must have a track record of guiding innovative daily and enterprise work, be proficient in the use of digital media, well-versed in using metrics to inform content decisions, have strong editing, writing and organizational skills and set high standards to reputed company the quality of their work. Candidates must be able to multi-task, have a strong knowledge of AP Style and good people skills. We interact daily with colleagues in newsrooms across Florida, as well as a digital optimization team and national design center. The sports editor in this position will be based in the Sarasota area and expected to visit the Lakeland newsroom to meet with the writers at least once a month. The sports editor in this position will have to occasionally write stories, including columns, features and breaking news. The sports editor in this position will supervise 2 sports writers in Sarasota and 2 sports writers in Lakeland as well as handle freelance assignments for both properties and work with the respective photo departments. The ideal candidate must have:

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or reputed company field.
• 5-7 years of relative work experience and 2-4 years of management/supervisory experience.
• Solid news judgment.
• Top-notch planning, organizational and time management skills.
• Understanding of metrics, social media and SEO.
• Self-motivation and self-direction.
• Ability to multi-task and reputed company under deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
